Show-Stopping Soft Glam

Everyone knows that the showstopper of soft glam is perfect concealer. All that your face demands in soft glam moments is well-concealed under-eyes and a positively bright forehead.

I class concealer as the most important product in my make-up bag: it accounts for under eyes, blemishes, discolouration, brightening and facial structure definition. But most importantly, it keeps my glam looking glam even when the rest of my look is soft.

Soft glam is all about soft lids and lips, but a beaming complexion. And an effortlessly glam complexion isn’t achievable without a creamy concealer. If you’re not relying on eye-shadow or lipstick for a look’s main event, then you end up relying on concealer.

The under-eye wear-ability of a concealer is its most important quality. For a concealer to be worthy of soft-glam-show-stopper status it must ensure all of the following qualities when applied under the eyes:

  • A creamy consistency
  • A weightless feel on the skin
  • A blurring effect that diffuses into the skin and makes it appear airbrushed
  • A seamless transition into your foundation
  • A formula that does not, by any means, accentuate fine lines
  • High pigmentation
  • An oil and crease-resistant formula

If a concealer doesn’t make your under-eyes look straight out of photoshop, put it in the bin and think about investing elsewhere. Under-eye concealment is crucial to show-stopping soft glam moments.

A good concealer doesn’t accentuate fine lines and provides perfect under-eye concealment without baking powder. A concealer should be radiant by its own accord and not dependent on baking powder for it to appear bright.

Because of this, I have never found a drug store concealer that I like. But that’s a blog post for another day. Thus, impressive under-eye concealment does require an impressive investment. My favourite creamy concealers, and worth the investment in my humble opinion, are:

  1. Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer (It’s Make Up by Mario approved… so, if you don’t take my word for it, take his)
  2. Delilah Take Cover Radiant Cream Concealer
  3. Rodial Diamond Liquid Concealer

When I tell you these products are creamy, I mean they are CRREEEAAMMMYYY. I’m talking condensed milk straight from the tin creamy. Yet, still unbelievably blendable. They are my holy trinity of concealers: luxurious formulas that bring a real brightness to a soft glam look.

I know I claim that I am a major advocate for bold glam, but sometimes a bold (or orange) outfit only requires soft glam.

Paired with my orange satin dress is the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer in shade 1C. I cannot iterate enough how perfect this concealer is – my under-eyes pop and it does not even slightly sink into my fine lines. It’s rare a concealer is worth the price point (£24) and delivers show-stopping results. It’s my new holy grail concealer.

As I mentioned earlier, I have never found a drugstore concealer I like. I really think high-end brands are worth the investment if you’re going glam. Coming soon will be a more extensive piece on why I don’t think drug store concealers are worth the money… keep your eyes peeled.
